Smartwatches are the way of the future when it comes to health. And even though saunas have been around for eons, they are still the future of health. A match made in heaven, right? Not always.
Although Samsung watches have very high water-resistance and durability ratings, they are not recommended for sauna usage. These watches should be kept at a temperature of 32-95°F and will automatically shut off at 113°F. Even if the watch is not active, the metal can overheat and burn you in the heat of the sauna.
Even though Samsung smartwatches and saunas seem to be perfect for each other, they just don’t mix. Read on to learn more about why these watches shouldn’t be worn in the sauna!
Is it okay to wear a Samsung smartwatch in the sauna?
Smartwatches help us measure our health in numerous ways. So it makes sense to want to bring your smartwatch into the sauna, where you receive numerous health benefits.
Despite most Samsung smartwatches being rated as IP68 and MIL-STD-810G, saunas can cause the watches to overheat or lose their water resistance. In addition, it is always recommended to remove metal jewelry before entering the sauna so you don’t get burnt.
IP stands for Ingress Protection. It is a universal measurement for dust and liquid resistance. IP68 is the highest rating a product can receive.
However, just because a device is IP68 doesn’t mean it can be worn in the sauna. The sauna has the ability to make devices overheat or damage their water-resistant coating.
In addition, most Samsung smartwatches have a standard of MIL-STD-810G. This is a measurement that certifies whether the equipment is military-grade. But, just like above, even this measurement doesn’t ensure that watches are safe for the sauna.
Lastly, it is recommended to remove all metal jewelry before entering the sauna because it can burn your skin.
