Does Life Time Have a Sauna? Locations, Access & Rules

About 6 min read

Short answer

Life Time offers sauna and steam-room facilities, but layout and access depend on the club. Potomac lists locker-room heat rooms; West Boca has a co-ed wet suite. Check the club’s amenities, current access terms and posted rules before visiting.

Life Time sells itself as an “athletic country club”, and the locker room is a big part of that pitch. If heat is the reason you are looking at a membership, check the exact club, room layout and access terms before paying. The examples below are individual locations, not a chain-wide inventory.

What heat and recovery amenities does Life Time have?

Potomac’s amenity page lists a locker-room sauna, steam room and whirlpool. The West Boca opening announcement, dated 19 December 2025, describes a co-ed wet suite with a cedar sauna, steam room, whirlpool and cold plunge. These examples show why the layout should be checked club by club.

To check one specific club, open it on lifetime.life and look at the “Luxury Amenities” section. That page is also where Life Time tells members whether their club has a cold plunge.

Is the sauna included in a Life Time membership?

Check your chosen club and membership’s access terms. Life Time’s US Guest and Club Policies allow access restrictions and separate fees for some spaces or services; an amenity listing alone is not a promise of access under every membership.

Compare current, dated quotes for the clubs and services you will actually use. This guide does not provide a chain-wide membership price or a guarantee that another gym will be cheaper.

Can you use the Life Time sauna without a membership?

Ask the selected club whether guest admission or a one-day option is available for your visit, and what it includes. Confirm the price and restrictions before relying on access to a particular heat room.

Life Time sauna hours

Check current room availability in the Life Time app or on the club page. General club hours do not guarantee that a particular sauna, steam room or plunge is available; closures and access restrictions can apply.

Rules and etiquette in the Life Time sauna and steam room

The following points come from Life Time’s US Guest and Club Policies, effective 9 September 2026, checked 20 October 2026. Local rules and applicable law also matter; Life Time says the more restrictive policy applies where policies conflict.

  • Check posted instructions for hygiene and use of the particular room.
  • Wear appropriate attire. The US policy prohibits nude use of the sauna, spa and steam room.
  • No shaving in the sauna, spa or steam room.
  • Do not pour water on the sauna heater. This is an express rule in the US policy.
  • No photographs, video or calls in these private heat-room areas. An audio-device rule is not a manufacturer’s heat-safety approval.
  • Keep it quiet. The policy also prohibits workouts, rubber suits and excessive clothing in the sauna or steam room.

Layout and clothing: do not assume that every heat room is inside a single-gender locker room. West Boca has a co-ed wet suite. Confirm the particular room’s clothing requirements. See gym sauna etiquette and sauna towel size.

Children: confirm the selected club’s age and access restrictions. The presence of a family locker room does not establish permission to use a heat room.

Sauna or steam room at Life Time: which one?

The sauna is hotter but dry; the steam room runs cooler but feels intense because the air is saturated and your sweat can’t evaporate. Do not choose a room on the assumption that lower air temperature makes it suitable for you. Typical numbers for both are in how hot a sauna vs. a steam room is.

What to check before combining heat and cold

A club offering several facilities does not establish a suitable heat-and-cold routine for every visitor. Before planning to combine them:

  1. Confirm availability: check which rooms are open and included in your access.
  2. Read room instructions: follow the posted conditions for each facility.
  3. Check personal suitability: ask a clinician if a health condition or medication could affect your response to heat or cold.
  4. Keep timings individual: this guide does not prescribe a universal heat, plunge or rest interval.
  5. Stop if unwell: feeling dizzy or uncomfortable is a reason to leave, not to complete a planned number of rounds.

For background on the different exposures, read sauna and cold plunge and how long and how often to use a dry sauna. A timer can record elapsed time; it does not determine whether a heat-and-cold routine is suitable for you.

Skip the heat or ask your doctor first if you are pregnant, have a heart condition or low blood pressure, take medication that affects heat tolerance, or have been drinking alcohol.

A note on the marketing: you’ll find claims about “clearing out toxins” on gym pages, Life Time’s included. Sweat is mostly water and salt; your liver and kidneys do the detox work. The real reasons to use the sauna are simpler: it feels good, it helps you unwind after training, and a regular routine is easy to stick to when the sauna is already part of your gym.

Non-Slip Quick-Dry Shower Shoes with Drain Holes

Life Time supplies the towels, but the locker room floor between the showers, the sauna and the plunge is still shared and wet. A cheap pair of drain-hole slides is the one thing worth packing; leave them outside the hot room if your club asks you to.

How does Life Time compare with other gyms?

Compare specific branches’ current amenities, access conditions and prices. A chain name alone does not guarantee heat-room availability:

  • YMCA: check the selected branch’s facilities.
  • LA Fitness: confirm the selected club’s heat rooms before joining.
  • 24 Hour Fitness: varies by club type.
  • Planet Fitness: check the exact location and distinguish a sauna from other amenities.

FAQ

Does every Life Time have a sauna?

This guide does not establish that every club has one. Potomac lists a locker-room sauna and steam room; check the selected club’s own amenity list.

Does Life Time have a cold plunge?

West Boca is one documented example. Check your selected club’s current amenity page and availability rather than assuming a plunge is included everywhere.

Does Life Time have infrared saunas?

The standard setup is a traditional dry sauna (some clubs call it a cedarwood sauna), not an infrared cabin. If you specifically want infrared, ask your club what its recovery area offers. Not sure which type suits you? See infrared vs. traditional saunas.

Is the Life Time sauna co-ed?

The layout varies. Potomac lists locker-room heat rooms, while West Boca has a co-ed wet suite. Check your club’s layout and clothing rules.

Do I need to bring a towel to Life Time?

Potomac lists towel service. Confirm the services at your own club before deciding what to bring.
